Tree Selection
In a changing climate, the priority tree selection is to select trees that will fit local environmental conditions now and in the future. To do this we select trees able to cope with future climates, are adapted to expected soil conditions and that will be able to withstand extreme weather conditions. Selected trees shall match the expected results in environmental development and biodiversity, carbon sequestration, timber production and any other stated needs.
Trees group planting
Planting new stands in tree groups leaves room for natural regeneration. These groups are homogenous in age and tree species. In our typical forest management plans, they span a maximum of three times the expected height (50 to 100 metres). Combining ages and species in a feasible set-up, aimed at harvesting efficiency, our forests grow up to be diverse, stable and resilient. In projects involving nature conservation, it allows for accounting what trees are left untouched during harvest towards all our nature conservation partners.
Increasing soil quality
Mostly at the event of tree harvesting, forest soils risk erosion and corresponding losses of nutrients and carbon. We combat soil disturbance by maintaining continuous forest cover, using logging roads and reduced flail mulching. In all our management plans, we aim to increase the amount of plants that have good quality leaves for increased soil fertility and stabilizing natural carbon sequestration in forest soil.
Natural Regeneration
We prefer species that may grow spontaneously on lands scheduled for transformation. In benefiting of natural regeneration principles to the best of our abilities, we decrease planting costs and labor and forest stands are more stable and resilient. By prioritizing species suited to local conditions, we enhance ecosystem resilience and promote biodiversity. Additionally, this approach fosters self-sustaining ecosystems, reducing the need for ongoing intervention and maintenance efforts.
Optimal use of natural regeneration
Complete forest clearances damage our environment more then necessary and result in peak income and processing. We spread harvests for stable income and harvesting capacity utilization, ensuring stable land value developments. Tending to the needs of our clients, we advise on spreading harvests over time and space. By advocating for sustainable harvesting practices, we strive to maintain ecological balance and preserve forest ecosystems for future generations.
Optimising forest productivity
We further increase soil fertility by well-timed management interventions. We continuously invest in new monitoring technology, including drone technology, to increase our management capabilities, improve reporting and forecasting precision and reduce intervention costs. This also enables us to improve timber quality and growth rates.
